Precision packing pre Sani2c

28 02 2010

I have started packing pre our Tuesday departure. With these point to point stage races, you get allocated a box which the organisers cart to each new overnight stop for you. If it can’t fit in the box, you can’t take it. With some careful planning and plenty of ziploc bags you can squeeze in nutrition, clothes, spares, toiletries, medical supplies.

Easy riding – last few days before Sani2C

27 02 2010

Winding down with a few days to go before Sani2C.  Tweaking our thoughts on nutrition.  What flavour this and what concentration of that.  Do we nothing in last three days or do we spin light?  Typical pre race questioning for a team of clueless amateurs.  Actually it is all part of the fun.

The Spruit was very wet this morning – huge puddles after last nights’ heavy rain.

Anger and Glutamine – serious performance enhancing combo

18 02 2010

At 4.40 this morning, where I am normally feeling sorry for myself on account of sleep deprivation, something made me really angry instead.  By time I hit the spinning class at 5.10 my anger was almost getting in the way of my breathing.  As we started warming up, realised how strong I was on the bike.  Turns out that riding angry is like a performance enhancer.  We had a fairly solid 2hr15 ride around the Spruit yesterday evening – my legs should have been poked.  I have been using the amino acid Glutamine to speed up muscle recovery – it seems to really help.  So with recovered legs and my momentary anger … there I was riding like a bike thief.  So far my most highly rated performance enhancing emotion.

The clip below is of the new section called Yankee Doodle on the Sani2C day 2.  If you don’t get mountain biking – you should watch this to see what it is all about.

Junk food every where you look

3 02 2010

Being on flu leave messes with my eating habits. I see junk food everywhere I look … and sometimes I eat. I have noticed that the more I train, the less crap I eat. The converse is too true. Hopefully I am back in action tomorrow.

Crisps ... I ate half the damn plate!

Training food

This looks like a shop but it is actually the kitchen at home. Frankly I need all the help I can get.
