Riding hard, going nowhere! Stationary mountain bike training #JoBerg2c

20 03 2010

I have not moved an inch on my bike since falling on day 3 of the Sani2C. I have however clocked 280km with one arm while going nowhere. The view from my patio into the garden over my handlebars is always the same (see photo). To be honest I have enjoyed it. I find the trainer very effective. Doing intervals with wattage, cadence and heart rate in front of you with a computer controllable incline means that you can have a totally predictable workout. I would go as far as to say that if you only have an hour – it is better to train on a roller than to ride a bike. Not as fun but the stats and computations make it very manageable. I am thinking of venturing out on a gentle ride tomorrow… might be a bit early for my shoulder. Not sure?

Same view ... every day

Training summary : weeks 10 & 11

Week 7 training summary – 14-20 February

25 02 2010

Good week, feeling strong.  Pains and heaviness of week before long forgotton.  The hours definately help with the classic cyclist sore ass problem.  There is no substitute for time in the saddle.  My weight is now hovering at goal weight of 90kg’s.  Mike has reported otherwise.

Week 4, 5 & 6 Summary (24 January – 13 February)

15 02 2010

Week 6 has been our first full week of training this year.  Shocking I know.  When Mike and I talk to each other we whimper and sniffle and  imagine the shortcomings of this year versus last year.  The Sani2C is in week 9.  Whatever we feel about the Sani2C is dwarfed by what we feel about the Joberg2C – here we cry without shame.  Oh F#$&.  The good news is that week 6 wasn’t too bad – 230km – nearly 7,000 calories and 13 hours later is what we should be aiming for.  Forget 4 and 5 whining won’t help.  My weight has dropped to 92kg’s – still on track for week 9 target of 90kg’s.

Week 3 summary – (17-23 January)

24 01 2010

Crappy week of training. No excuses, just have to double up this coming week.

Managed just over 100km’s.  Looking to do 150km + despite having lost the usual big Sunday ride today.

About 5 week to go until Sani2C. We are treating it as a training ride but this doesn’t make it necessarily easy. It is close to 300km over 3 days with nearly 4,800m of climbing. Last year I was humbled.

Week 2 summary – (10 to 16 January 2010)

17 01 2010

First proper week of training after the summer holidays.

152km’s
