How it all started

At school I lived on my bike.  It was my transport, my freedom and my joy.  Then it stopped.  Circa 1987.  No reason.  I just grew up I guess.  Then in May 2007 while at a conference in Berlin … a few of us rented bikes and went exploring.  The next week I walked into Dunkeld Cycles and brought the first bike I could see.  A Specialised Epic.

Why the blog?

In planning for a big year of endurance riding and multi-stage races, it occurred to me that there is so much more to the experience than the race itself.  So while the biggie in the plan is only in April/May 2010 (Joberg2C) – the experience starts months before.  My first response was to keep a training diary … then a friend pointed out that a blog would be better.  So here it is.  If nothing else I expect to have some fun recording the mountain bike story.  I expect my family and a few others may tag along and check out the posting – especially the pictures from time to time.  Enjoy!
